- Response
The Scottish Ambulance Service does not hold approved or funded WTE establishment figures for Ambulance Technicians and Paramedics at individual ambulance station or operational-base level. Accordingly, in terms of section 17(1) of FOISA, we do not hold that information.
For information that may be of assistance, the Scottish Ambulance Service publishes workforce information, including whole-time equivalent staffing figures, within its Annual Report and Accounts. This information is available at:
https://www.scottishambulance.com/publications/
However, these published figures provide workforce information at organisational level and do not include approved or funded establishment figures for individual ambulance stations or operational bases
.
The attached spreadsheet provides the actual workforce information held within SAS workforce systems for Ambulance Technicians and Paramedics. The information has been aggregated to Directorate level and shows:
- Ambulance Technician headcount;
- Ambulance Technician WTE;
- Paramedic headcount; and
- Paramedic WTE.
The figures represent a workforce snapshot as at 22 September 2026 and reflect the staff recorded within the workforce system at that date.
The information has been provided at Directorate level rather than individual station or operational base level. The Scottish Ambulance Service considers that disclosure at station level would result in a number of very small staff groups being reported. When combined with information already known locally, this could increase the risk of individual employees becoming identifiable.
Consistent with its obligations under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, SAS seeks to minimise the risk of releasing information in a form which may permit the identification of individuals. Aggregating the data to Directorate level enables the Service to provide the workforce information held while significantly reducing the risk of identification arising from small-number disclosures.
Please note when interpreting this data:
Headcount represents the number of individual employees recorded within a Directorate.
WTE represents the contracted hours of those employees expressed as full-time equivalent posts.
Neither measure should be interpreted as an approved or funded establishment figure.
